Rev. Hwang SunKyu has passed away on 24th February, 2022, at the age of 90. When he retired from JungAng Baptist Church , Seattle, he was nearly 70 years old, had suffered from lung cancer, lost already his wife of lung cancer.
But the Lord commanded him to start foreign missions. He could not understand what the Lord said, under the situation of himself; retired poor pastor, no life partner, dying body.
But he finally obeyed Him, and organized GSM (Good Shepherd Mission) in 2002, and started to help 6 missionaries, 100 dollars each per month. He offered all his pension of Korean War Injury to GSM. He was a army captain and injured from Korean War in 1950's.
Even he started this GSM, he could not know when he die, just lived day by day. Later married again. New wife took good care of him. He slept with oxygen mask many days, went through several heart surgeries. But God revived him and extended his life many times. And he traveled many countries and encouraged missionaries, local ministers.
Some KBS graduates and myself received financial help from GSM for a long time, each 100 dollars per month.
I have heard GSM is helping 1200 missionaries around world last year. He oftentimes said how crucial artillery back up to infantry because he had experienced at the battle. This personal experience made him desperate in raising mission fund of artillery and supporting front line infantry missionaries.
It started with supporting 6 missionaries in 2002. God granted special grace to him and gave tremendous increase to GSM for the kingdom of God, using a dying man.
22년 10월 17일.
학교에 여러 작업지시( 기숙사 천정 누수, 닭장 보수)를 하고 프놈펜으로 갔다. 내일 cc3 세례식이 있어 오늘 밤 이상범 목사님이 한국에서 오신다. 이 목사님은 세례 베풀러 여러번 오셨고 팀들과도 많이 오셨다.
오늘 저녁엔 GSM (선한목자 선교회) 임원진과 후원자들이 한국. 미국에서 와서 메콩강에서 배를 타고 후원 선교사들과 교제한다고 해서 나도 참석했다. 황목사님이 올해 돌아 가시고 김경식 선교사가 대표를 맡고있다. 우리 kbs도 20년간 GSM의 후원을 받아왔다. 강바람을 맞으며 코로나 걱정없이 믿음의 형제 자매와 대화를 나누는 것이 즐거웠다. 조봉기목사님 40세된 딸이 늦게 시집간 이야기, 러시아에서도 선교하신 77세 여자분이 시애틀에서 칫과하는 딸이 많은 구좌를 후원하는 이야기, 후원하고나서 칫과가 번창한 이야기, 1000명 가까이 되는 GSM 선교사들은 한사람씩 이름을 짚어가며 기도하는 본부요원들, 시애틀에서 매년 하는 선교 대회의 유익함 등등..
즐거운 시간이었다.
황선규목사님이 뿌려 놓은 많은 씨앗들, 사랑과 교제, 열정과 전투정신, 이러한 것들이 오늘 저녁 메콩강 선상에서도 열매로 되어 나타난다.
